Tymberwood Academy rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted

Tymberwood Academy in Gravesend, Kent, has been rated “Good” by Ofsted after being inspected last month. Since joining the UK’s largest primary academy trust, REAch2, in February 2014, the school has improved from a rating of “special measures” to “Good”.

The primary school, which teaches pupils aged 4 to 11 was judged as “Good” in all areas and “Outstanding” in ‘Effectiveness of leadership and management’. The report highlights that ‘leaders have had a substantial impact on improving the quality of teaching and raising standards over the last two years’ and that they ‘have created a highly inclusive school community.’

Teachers were described as having a ‘wide range of information about the progress that pupils are making in reading, writing and mathematics’ and it was noted that ‘staff support pupils’ personal development and welfare exceptionally well. Pupils are proud of their own achievements and their school’ and ‘all staff make a positive contribution to pupils’ learning.’

The report also notes that ‘behaviour is good. Pupils are polite and courteous. The school is a calm and purposeful place to learn’ and that ‘more pupils are coming to school regularly, including those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities.’

The report praises the executive headteacher for ‘transforming the quality of education that pupils receive. Staff, parents and pupils recognise and value the significant improvements that have been made’.
