Overview

Are you a leader and teacher who believes in learning without limits and can demonstrate this in all that you do? Do you want the opportunity to be part of a unique team to set-up a brand new academy from scratch? Are you passionate that all children deserve the very best learning opportunities? If so, we would love to hear from you! At Green Ridge Primary Academy, we are looking for a Deputy Headteacher who will initially be class-based. We are looking for a unique leader who is up for a challenge and wants to get stuck in with all aspects of our academy life!

About us

Green Ridge Academy is a new primary school built on Berryfields, which opened in September 2017 in temporary accommodation on the site of the permanent building. The academy currently has three classes, comprising of two Reception classes and a mixed-aged Key Stage One class. The permanent school building is due to open for September 2018. The school will then grow year-on-year with a Nursery, taking children from aged 2-11. The school will initially have a capacity for over 450 children, but is being built with the additional capacity to extend to a three-form entry school with just over 650 children.

The academy already has a Headteacher and Head of Learning for Early Years, and we are now looking to appoint a Deputy Headteacher to grow the capacity within the school and join them in being part of the unique opportunity to build and grow the school from its infancy. There is no doubt about it, setting up the academy from scratch takes vision, dedication and hard-work, but being part of that exciting and rare journey is extremely rewarding to watch the academy take shape over the next few years. To see more information about the school, including design plans of the school, please visit our website http://www.greenridgeacademy.co.uk

At Green Ridge, we rightly pride ourselves on the high expectations we place on the academic achievements and behaviour of all children, whatever their need, as well as a broad, diverse and engaging creative curriculum which will underpin all that we do.  Green Ridge is an inclusive setting, valuing all children’s achievements and ensuring that each child is given every opportunity to meet their full potential.  There is no doubt that Green Ridge is an exciting place to be – for children, staff, parents and the local community!

As a Class Teacher and leader, you will be passionate about ensuring the best outcomes for children and giving them every opportunity to succeed, whatever their barriers may be.  Green Ridge is an academy where every child is respected and treated as an individual, with no limits placed on their learning – just opportunities to continually improve with a growth Mindset approach.  We do not ‘label’ children or group them by perceived ‘ability’; instead we give all children equal opportunities to challenge themselves through the range of tasks and activities presented to them – empowering children to take ownership and responsibility for their own learning.

About the role

You may be an existing Assistant or Deputy Headteacher with skills and experience to complement the leadership team at Green Ridge, or you may be an ambitious Senior Leader within the primary age-range who has a passion for leadership and are ready to make your mark as the Deputy Headteacher of Green Ridge. Whatever your background or experience, we would really like to hear from you.

Our Deputy Headteacher needs to be a highly effective classroom practitioner across the primary age range first and foremost, who is ready to take the challenge of opening up a brand new school from the start. Initially, the role will be classroom-based (likely within Early Years or Key Stage One), with leadership time given each week in order to fulfil the requirements of the job role. Over time, it is expected that the role will become non-class based in order to oversee all aspects of learning and teaching across the academy and leading on aspects of school improvement in order to drive standards. The ideal candidate will be a practitioner who is zealous about education and willing to drive forward learning and teaching in order to continually improve and secure outstanding outcomes for all pupils. There is no doubt that you will need drive and determination to join us as this crucial time in our school’s journey.

As a member of the academy’s Senior Leadership Team, you will also initially be a Head of Learning for Key Stage One and so will participate in the strategic leadership and management of the academy and will be responsible for the quality of teaching and learning across the phase you lead, as well as overseeing the effective management of academy resources within the phase. The position will oversee a team of people within the phase and be responsible for performance appraisal and standards across the board. Heads of Learning are also responsible for a whole-school core subject area (Reading, Writing, Mathematics or Science) and work across the school to lead this specific subject. A large part of the Head of Learning role includes coaching and mentoring staff within the phase to ensure that teaching and learning is at least good and outstanding.

As part of the Deputy Headteacher role you will also oversee aspects of the school’s inclusion, including Pupil Premium, SEND, Attendance and Welfare, Behaviour and Vulnerable groups. Experience of leadership in these areas would be advantageous, as would the desire to undertake the National SENCo accreditation. The Deputy Headteacher role will include being a designated safeguarding lead, and so experience in this role is essential.

The Deputy Headteacher role will grow and adapt with the academy over the coming years, and so the person appointed will need to be prepared for aspects of change and development as pupil and staff numbers increase over time. Whilst initially you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Key Stage One phase, over time, the Deputy Headteacher will have a number of roles that report into them as the role expands, including other support staff and teachers.

We are also willing to remunerate a candidate who is able to support us during the summer holidays to set up the permanent building in readiness for opening in September.

What we’re looking for:

We are looking for an outstanding classroom practitioner across the primary range who has

leadership experience within their setting. You will be someone who is highly driven and motivated, has an eye for detail, and can work flexible and creatively.

The successful candidate will have:

– The motivation to achieve the very best for the children in our care and be relentless in the pursuit of excellence

– Excellent inter-personal and leadership skills as well as the ability to inspire and challenge colleagues – Proven experience as an effective good and outstanding classroom teacher

– Experience of working with children of different ages within the primary range

– Have the ability to lead aspects of school improvement and ensure that all children are given opportunities to excel

– Excellent communication skills and a good sense of humour

In return we can offer:

– A firm commitment to you and your professional development

– Friendly, supportive, enthusiastic and hardworking colleagues, staff and Governors

– A growing learning community

– Encouragement to develop new ideas and the opportunity to make a real difference

-Coaching and mentoring from the academy’s Headteacher

-Fantastic trust-wide CPD opportunities

-Vast opportunities for career progression
