Woodside Primary Academy celebrate award for Outstanding Progress

Staff and children at Woodside Primary Academy in Walthamstow are celebrating after winning an award at the 2017 Education Business Awards for Outstanding Progress. The Awards, which took place in London on the 6 July, recognised the excellent work of schools across the country and were presented by Stephen Drew of reality TV show Educating Essex fame, who is currently headteacher at Brentwood County High School.

The award was presented to Woodside for making “outstanding progress in the management of its facilities, finances, human resources” and for “[demonstrating] an increase in the educational performance of the school.”

The school, which is part of REAch2 Academy Trust, was rated as an “Outstanding” school in an Ofsted inspection last July. Under new leadership, Woodside has made significant improvements in the last few years, with children’s attainment now in the top 5% of the country. The school has also been awarded the Artsmark Gold and Silver Sports Mark, which celebrates the school ethos of exposing children to a vast array of enrichment opportunities.

Shane Tewes, headteacher at Woodside Primary Academy, said:

‘We feel honoured and extremely proud to have won this award, which celebrates the hard work and determination of our staff and children. We’ve made a huge amount of progress and are excited about our future as a school where we know children now have a fantastic environment in which to thrive.’
